Hi, thank you for visiting my site. My name is Hector U. Velazquez. I was born on July 19, 1978 in East LA, California. My family came from the small town of Coatzingo in Puebla, Mexico during the 1970's. I spent most of my life growing up in the city of South Gate, in South LA, about 20 minutes south of Downtown LA. I have 3 younger brothers and a baby sister, who are in most of the family pictures I have up in the family gallery.
I started doing photography during my senior year at South Gate High School. A high school trip to Yosemite National Park changed the way I looked at things and I have been doing photography ever since. When I got to college, I spent two years as a photographer for the Harvard Crimson newspaper where I got to go on many interesting photo assignments. I shot former President Bill "Slick Willy" Clinton, Mel "The Thunder from Down Under" Gibson, David "The Man Who Sold the World" Bowie, and other assorted characters and events while I was on the Crimson. I have been living in the Boston area for the last several years, doing different jobs and always working on my photography.
I try to capture some of the beauty I see in the world around me in my photos and the little things that people might not always notice before they are gone. Many of the subjects and moments I have shot have not lasted for very long. A closeup of a flower in the springtime or a grandfather's smile are scenes which might not be repeated again. When people are no longer with us, all we have left are photographs.
There are more than 500 images on this web site, mainly ones taken around California, Massachusetts, and Mexico. I am mainly drawn to landscapes and religious images as you might notice from the lack of people in many of my photographs, but I shoot whatever interesting people, places, or things I come across. Take a look at them and I hope you like them. Any comments and suggestions you might have about the site would be greatly appreciated. You can email me at firstname.lastname@example.org. Thank you.
